Gary Detman is the Digital Content Manager at CBS12 News, joining the team as a digital content producer in November 2014.
He gathers, writes, and shares news and information in the digital, fast-paced "right now" newsroom known as cbs12.com.
Gary is a journalist with more than 20 years of experience in news. While in graduate school at the University of Colorado, he worked as an intern for KUSA in Denver before joining KCNC as an associate producer. Gary made stops in Jacksonville and Cleveland as a producer, executive producer and digital content manager.
He has won multiple awards and received numerous nominations for his work in television. He won an Emmy for the historical documentary, "50 years on Channel 12." He received a Breaking News Emmy nomination for "Serial Killer Shootout." His documentary "Day in the Sun," which focused on the Cinderella story of the 1969 JU Dolphins college basketball team earned a Best Documentary and Silver Telly award, along with a Jacksonville Historical Preservation Commission award. A newscast covering the Amtrak train crash in Jacksonville won a best of company award and a Regional Edward R. Murrow award.
Gary is a die-hard fan of the Denver Broncos, loves to watch football, and has a weakness for steak, Gummi bears, and Saturday afternoon naps.
He occasionally gets out into the community for stories, and produces content for Black History Month.
