We are less than 100 days away from the start of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

The first name on our list is Arlene.

While we may have some time before the season begins, we will start to see information get released over the coming months.

First, the end of March is when we typically receive information on what names will be retired from last season.

Colorado State University usually issues its forecast in April, while NOAA releases one in May.

Hurricane Preparedness week is in early May. The season begins on June 1.

We may see a below average season this year.

According to NOAA, there is a 60 percent chance that El Nino will develop during the peak of Hurricane Season.

El Nino usually suppresses hurricane development, because it creates stronger wind shear across the tropical Atlantic, and increases the strength of the subtropical high.

Both of these things make it more difficult for storms to develop and strengthen. While there are many factors that go into a hurricane forecast, experts could be predicting a below average season.
